Luncheon MeetingWinter Romp Join NEINEA members and their Elkhounds for our annual winter dog walk! NEINEA was originally formed as the Great Lakes Norsk Elghund Association in February 1967, so we gather every year to celebrate winter and the club's birthday. All Elkhound lovers are welcome to participate. This year our Winter Romp is being held at two New Locations. We will meet for a long walk in Oak Openings Nature Preserve located in Grayslake, Illinois. After the walk, you're welcome to join us for a luncheon meeting at Anam Cara Cafe in Libertyville, Illinois.

Date: TBASyttende Mai Parade ' Norway Day Parade For many years our club has participated in the Norway Day Parade commemorating Norway's Constitution Day (May 17, 1814). This event is held annually in Park Ridge, Illinois on the third Sunday in May. Our Elkies like to celebrate Norway's independence by walking in the Norway Day Parade and all Norwegian Elkhounds (and even Norwegian Buhunds) are welcome to join us.

RallyAnnual NEINEA Specialty Conformation Shows This annual event is being held on Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd, at the Car-Dun-Al Obedience Dog Training Club, which has ample space, matted floors, and air conditioning. This year's show offers an exhibition of Norwegian Elkhounds competing in three conformation events. Shows One & Two on Saturday, with Show Three, Sweepstakes & Rally on Sunday.

Date: TBADogtoberfest - Romp with Elkies This event is held on a Saturday in October at a Chicago-area Forest Preserve or a members's home. Members gather with their dogs for fun activities in the outdoors, followed by snacks or a pot luck luncheon and a general business meeting.

Date: TBAMeander in the Marsh The fall meander is usually held on a Saturday in November at Cuba Marsh in Lake Zurich, Illinois. A long walk on the trails beside the marsh with the dogs in the cool autumn air is just the thing to invigorate our hounds. In addition, the meander often includes a fundraiser for the AKC Canine Health Foundation. A business meeting and Pot Luck lunch usually follows the walk.

Date: TBAHoliday Party The NEINEA Holiday Party is held in December at a restaurant or member's home. Our "Pollyanna Grab Bag" has become one of the highlights of the evening. Gift thievery is legal, and that's when the fun begins. The Holiday Party is one of our biggest social events of the year, and even famous people such as "Father Time", "Santa Lucia", and "Yenta Claus" have been known to attend.

Date: TBAWinter Romp The Winter Romp is held the 2nd or 3rd weekend in February at a forest preserve in the Chicago area. There the members of NEINEA and their Elkhounds get together to celebrate the club's birthday. NEINEA was originally formed as the Great Lakes Norsk Elghund Association in February 1967. Sometimes activities are planned for both the people and dogs, and sometimes everyone just enjoys a long walk in the woods followed by a meeting and lunch at a nearby restaurant.
